Key Stages in PC/TR Eyewear Production

Below are some of the essential steps in crafting PC/TR eyewear. These selected processes highlight the craftsmanship, precision, and technology involved in transforming raw materials into stylish and durable frames.

Step 1: Molding

Plastic frames are formed by injection machines. The accuracy of the injection mold decides the final structure of the frames. And mold is also the biggest investment in orders of injection eyewear. These all make molding so important.

Step 2: Injection Moulding

Once the molds are ready, we can start the injection moulding process. Basically, it’s a process to melt down the plastic pallets and then inject into the mold for shaping. As for temples, the wire cores were inserted at the same time during the injection.

Step 3: Polish

After injection molding, the polishing process removes injection traces and prepares the eyewear components for coloring. The fronts and temples are separated, leaving traces at the joints that require careful polishing. Tumbling barrels with timers and logs are used to manage the process, and metal hinges on temples are covered to protect their paint. Joint lines, an unavoidable result of the mold’s two-half structure, are minimized with fine sanding. Tumbling polishing involves three stages: rough tumbling (12 hours) with large wood pellets to smooth cutting edges, medium tumbling (36 hours) with medium-sized pellets for smaller surface imperfections, and shiny tumbling (24 hours) with small pellets to create a polished finish. To achieve precision, hand polishing complements tumbling by focusing on finer details using grinding wheels. This combination ensures efficient and optimal results, producing smooth, shiny, and well-polished eyewear components ready for the next stage.

Step 4: Coloring

When the polish processes were done, we move to the next step of coloring. And before that, we need to assemble the fronts and temples so that they can be colored together. Be aware that the only metal part hinges should be covered during the coloring process, so that it can keep it’s original metal color.

The color of acetate frames are determined by the acetate material while the metal frames’ colors are mostly close to the original metal colors. On the other hand, the colors of injection frames are unlimited which added by spray painting.

Step 5: Packaging and Inspection

The packaging and inspection process begins with lens cutting, where raw lenses, typically round with the required base curve, are trimmed to fit frames. Optical frames use universal white lenses, while sunglasses often rely on lenses from trusted suppliers. Branding and size details are silk-printed on the lenses and temples as requested. Lens mounting, requiring skilled workers to avoid damage, is followed by frame adjustments based on engineer drawings to ensure proper alignment. Quality control is critical, with unqualified frames either reworked or discarded to maintain high standards. Once approved, frames are ultrasonically cleaned to remove fingerprints or oil stains before being packaged. Packaging involves carefully sleeving the front and temples, folding the frame, and sealing it in eco-friendly poly bags before boxing. Finally, customers may conduct their inspections, often through a third-party service, using AQL sampling or full inspection if arranged in advance. This thorough process ensures quality and readiness for delivery.
